Courtney is a Partner in the firm’s Employment Practice. He joined the firm in 2019 and was appointed as a Partner in March 2025.
He obtained his LLB from the University of the Free State in 2016 and his LLM from Stellenbosch University in 2017.
Courtney has litigated in various bargaining councils, the CCMA, High Court, Labour Court, Labour Appeal Court, and the Constitutional Court. He has been involved in a variety of matters in the employment law sphere, including dismissal disputes, unfair labour practice disputes, contractual claims, and demarcation disputes.
He has a particular interest and is regularly involved in collective bargaining and collective employment law disputes, including strikes and organisational rights disputes. Courtney has furthermore been involved in a variety of matters relating to restraints of trade and other restrictive covenants, including the drafting and advising on these agreements, and litigation involving the enforcement of these agreements.
