Jeannette has over 10 years of experience as an attorney. She joined CHM as a partner on 5 July 2024 in the Employment Law Practice.
Jeannette has acted for a broad client base across various sectors, including state-owned enterprises, government entities, non-profit organisations, trade unions, a bargaining council, employers’ organisations, international and local companies, universities, and executive employees.
She specialises in all areas of employment law and also represents clients in High Court litigation.
Jeannette has represented clients in various forums, including internal workplace hearings, the CCMA, bargaining councils, the Labour Courts, the Labour Appeal Court, magistrates’ courts, equality courts, mediation, private arbitrations, the High Court, and the Constitutional Court.
The complex matters Jeannette has been involved in include the extension of a bargaining council’s collective agreement, demarcation disputes, exemption applications, interdicting violent strikes/unlawful conduct/#FeesMustFall student protests, large-scale retrenchments in the private and public sectors, interpretation and application disputes, unfair discrimination disputes relating to the use of cannabis in the workplace, equal work for equal pay disputes, mutual interest arbitrations relating to essential services, review applications in the Labour Court dealing with novel issues, review applications in the High Court relating to the Covid-19 pandemic and executive appointments, restraints of trade in the gambling industry, unlawful occupation in volatile areas, intricate property valuations, and lease disputes.
Her investigation experience includes grievances, cover-quoting schemes, senior manager misconduct, grading irregularities, financial misconduct, sensitive sexual harassment allegations, and dysfunctional working environments.
Her drafting experience includes complex legal opinions, pleadings, and agreements, including collective agreements for employers and a bargaining council, as well as picketing rules, workplace policies, and by-laws. Jeannette has a keen interest in legislative drafting and was involved in drafting the Border Management Authority Act and the regulations relating to that Act.
